"Thank you for taking the time to visit our campaign website. I am running for Congress because fresh leadership is needed to tackle the serious problems we collectively face. While our country is valiantly meeting new challenges abroad, far too many of our problems here at home are being inadequately or improperly addressed.

As a fiscally responsible Democrat, I believe in a lean government that lives within its means, and I believe we need a better plan for our government to put America on a course for long-term growth and economic security. That means putting people before special interests and supporting tax cuts that do not jeopardize our future prosperity and which help our families meet needs such as education and child care.

Besides the economy, we face other serious issues. We must improve education by investing in our schools, by reducing class size, and attracting and retaining quality teachers. Schools, teachers, and students should be held accountable in order to provide our children with the tools they need to meet the challenges of a diverse and changing economy. Congress must finally tackle health care problems that have languished for too long – important issues such as the 40 million Americans that remain uninsured, seniors without access to prescription drugs, and a long overdue patients bill of rights. We must also leave our children a safe and protected environment.

Nothing less than our future is at stake, and control of the House of Representatives will be decided by a few races such as this one in Kentucky’s Third Congressional District.
